Tiger Woods Biography

Buick Touring Pro Since 1999

Eldrick (Tiger) Woods, 31, has achieved unprecedented success since becoming a professional golfer in the summer of 1996. Woods is the first person to hold all four professional major championships at the same time and only the fifth golfer to win all four during a career. Through 2006, Woods had amassed twelve professional major titles plus three U.S. Amateur victories.

Tiger´s interest in golf began at the age of six months, when he imitated his father's swing while watching him hit golf balls into a net. He putted against Bob Hope on the "Mike Douglas Show" at age 2, shot 48 for nine holes at age 3, was featured in Golf Digest at age 5, and won the first of six international junior championships at age 8.

He was the youngest player ever to win the U.S. Junior Amateur at 15, and then the first to win the title for the second and third times. He took his first U.S. Amateur title at 18, again as the youngest ever to win, and went on to become the first to win three consecutive U.S. Amateur championships before joining the professional circuit at age 20. He stunned the sports world a few months later when he became the youngest Masters champion ever, winning by 12 strokes and breaking numerous scoring records.

It took Tiger Woods less than four years on the PGA TOUR to become the all-time leading money winner; his total earnings now exceed $50 million. He has won more PGA TOUR events than any other active player, and Woods´ six consecutive victories through the early months of 2000 equaled the second-longest winning streak in golf history. By the end of the summer of 2000, Tiger had won the U.S. Open by 15 strokes, the British Open by eight, and held or shared the scoring records in relation to par for all four of the major championships.

Despite losing his father Earl during the 2006 season, Tiger continued to dominate the PGA TOUR with two major titles and eight total victories. He enters the 2007 TOUR season carrying 54 career PGA TOUR victories, and enjoying a streak of six consecutive wins through the end of 2006.

Tiger Woods has been a Buick Touring Pro since 1999, but his contributions extend beyond the record books. He is also the founder of the Tiger Woods Foundation, a children's charity organization designed to facilitate minority participation in golf and related activities. As part of its work, the Foundation has pledged its full support to the World Golf Foundation's "First Tee" program.
