Buick SUVs: a smart choice for new drivers

With safety and driver assistance features*, intuitive technologies and a commitment to help promote safe teen driving, Buick SUVs offer added peace of mind for new drivers and their loved ones. Here’s a closer look at why Buick is an outstanding choice for first-time drivers.

Teen Driver mode and safe habits

Teen Driver technology is designed to help encourage better driving habits for teens by allowing parents to customize driving parameters. Parents can set up a Teen Driver-designated key fob, which automatically activates features like:

  • Audio Volume Limit: Set a volume limit for radio or streaming.
  • Speed Warning: Set a speed warning between 40 mph and 75 mph, which will give your teen a warning on the Driver Information Center and an audible chime if they go above the speed.
  • Speed Limiter: Set a maximum speed limit on the vehicle of 85 mph. When Speed Limiter is turned on and the teen starts the vehicle, they’ll see a Driver Information Center message that the top speed is limited.
  • Buckle to Drive: Turn ON to prevent teen from shifting out of PARK for 20 seconds after the vehicle is turned on if they, or, on some vehicles, the detected front passenger, have not buckled their seat belt. On some vehicles, Buckle to Drive is always ON when Teen Driver is active and is not configurable.

Teen Driver also generates an in-vehicle report card, giving parents insights into their teen’s driving patterns. Depending on the vehicle, and when certain systems are triggered, you may see the following: distance driven, maximum speed, overspeed warnings, number of times the accelerator pedal was floored and when certain safety systems were activated, such as Traction Control.

Safety or driver assistance features are no substitute for the driver's responsibility to operate the vehicle in a safe manner. The driver should remain attentive to traffic, surroundings and road conditions at all times. Visibility, weather, and road conditions may affect feature performance. Read the vehicle Owner's Manual for more important feature limitations and information.

Quiet and focused

Driving confidently comes not just from safety and driver assistance features but also from a calm, undisturbed environment.

QuietTuning® helps reduce outside noise and helps keep the cabin peaceful. This quiet atmosphere is ideal for beginner drivers, helping them focus on the road without unnecessary distractions.

Buick’s infotainment display allows drivers to effortlessly access navigation*, hands-free calling, voice commands and more, helping first-time drivers stay connected while keeping their hands on the wheel.

Safety and driver assistance features for extra reassurance

Every Buick SUV is equipped with safety and driver assistance technologies that help mitigate common road risks.

  • Available HD Surround Vision*: Provides selectable digital camera views of the area around your vehicle to help you park and avoid vehicles and objects. You can also display a guideline to show where your vehicle is heading.
  • Available Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning*: Uses a brief steering wheel turn to prevent a potential lane departure when it detects you are unintentionally drifting out of your lane lines. If needed, you may receive additional Lane Departure Warning alerts. System alerts do not occur if you’re using your turn signal, or it detects you may be intentionally leaving your lane.
  • Available Front Pedestrian Braking*: At speeds between 5 and 50 mph, it can help you avoid or reduce the severity of a collision with a pedestrian it detects directly in front of you. It provides alerts and can automatically provide hard emergency braking or enhance the driver’s hard braking. It has limited nighttime and low visibility performance.
  • Available Automatic Emergency Braking*: At speeds between 5 and 50 mph, Automatic Emergency Braking can help you avoid or reduce the severity of a collision with a detected vehicle you’re following using camera technology. It can automatically provide hard emergency braking or enhance the driver’s hard braking.
  • Available Rear Cross Traffic Alert*: When you’re in REVERSE, Rear Cross Traffic Alert warns you of detected vehicles crossing behind you.
