ASSESSING TIRE CONDITION

The condition of your tires can affect everything from how your Buick handles to its gas mileage. Many factors – including time, temperature, loading conditions, and improper inflation – can affect how fast a tire ages.

THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS)

The TPMS works by sending a signal from the pressure sensor, located in your vehicle’s wheel, to the instrument control panel, which alerts you when the tire pressure is low. It is recommended that a trained professional inspect, and, if necessary, service your TPMS to determine if it is working properly.

WHEN TO CHECK TIRE PRESSURE

If your vehicle is not equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), check your tires at least once a month with a tire pressure gauge (your vehicle’s recommended tire pressure number likely can be found on a sticker inside the driver’s door).

WHEN SHOULD I REPLACE MY TIRES?

Place a penny upside down in between the most severely worn part of the tire’s tread grove. If the tread doesn’t touch the top of Lincoln’s head, it’s time to replace your tires. Also, tread wear indicators will appear when the tires only have 2/32 inch or less of tread remaining which indicate replacement. And if a tire or sidewall is split, bulging, cracked, or has tire cord fabric showing, it’s time for replacement.

WHEN SHOULD I ROTATE MY TIRES?

To help equalize wear, tires typically should be rotated every 7,500 miles.

DO I NEED AN ALIGNMENT?

If you notice any of the following, it may be time for a tire or alignment service: wheel bends or dents, recurring loss of tire pressure, bumps in the tire sidewalls, vibration emanating from the wheels, or unusual front-end movement when driving on flat surfaces.

TIRE TYPES

Be sure to visit your Certified Service expert technicians for even more help. Your Owner’s Manual has information regarding your vehicle’s original tire warranty.

ALL-TERRAIN TIRES

All-terrain tires provide good performance on most road surfaces, in most weather conditions, and for off-road driving.

RUN-FLAT TIRES

Run-flat tires can be driven on with no air pressure. There is no need to stop to change the tire. Continue driving, but not for too far or too fast (less than 50mph).

PERFORMANCE TIRES

Performance tires are designed for enhanced handling and generally have high-speed ratings and low aspect ratio for improved control. Not for winter driving.

ALL-SEASON TIRES

Designed for year-round ruse, these tires offer good overall performance on most road surfaces and in most weather conditions.

SUMMER-ONLY TIRES

Summer tires have a special tread and compound that are optimized for maximum dry- and wet-road performance.

NOTE: Do not use summer-only tires in winter conditions, as it would adversely affect vehicle safety, performance, and durability. Use only GM-approved tire and wheel combinations. Unapproved combinations may change the vehicle’s performance. For important tire and wheel information, go to Support or see your dealer.

SNOW/WINTER TIRES

Winter tires are designed for increased traction on snow- and ice-covered roads. There may be decreased dry-road traction. See your dealer for details regarding winter-tire
availability.

NOTE: Use only GM-approved tire and wheel combinations. Unapproved combinations may change the vehicle’s performance. Learn more at your dealer.

OIL INSIGHTS

Newer Buick vehicles are equipped with an engine Oil Life System (OLS). This system continuously monitors your driving conditions and helps determine when it’s time for an oil change. When the OLS light comes on, it’s time for service. It’s an accurate, effective way to save money and help reduce oil waste.

For vehicles without an OLS, your Buick Certified Service expert can help you determine the right interval for your Buick.

In addition to ACDelco dexos1™ Full Synthetic, your Buick Certified Service experts can recommend a range of oil types, including ACDelco Gold Conventional Oil and Mobil 1™ Full Synthetic.

MOBIL 1™ OIL

  • Exceptional high-temperature stability helps resist oxidative thickening

BRAKE CHECK

Your brakes are one of the most important safety systems on your Buick. So be sure to have your brakes checked regularly to help prevent unnecessary damage to their components, including rotors, calipers, and other related systems.

It’s recommended that a trained professional such as your Buick Certified Service expert inspect, and if needed, service your braking system to determine whether all components are working properly. Your Buick Certified Service experts can recommend quality brake components such as ACDelco parts.

BATTERY PERFORMANCE

In general, you can count on your Buick’s battery to last an average of 3 to 5 years. It depends on a number of factors, including your driving habits and the climate in which you live. In general, warmer climates tend to increase damage, but other issues can have an impact on battery failure, such as infrequent start-ups and discharged batteries freezing at 320 F. It’s recommended that a trained professional inspect and service your battery to help ensure the system is working properly. Your Buick Certified Service experts can recommend quality components, such as ACDelco batteries, that are designed, tested, and backed by Buick.

SIGNS OF SPARK PLUG WEAR

Spark plugs provide the spark that ignites the air-fuel mixture within an engine’s cylinders. If you are experiencing a lack of power, sluggish acceleration, and/or poor fuel economy, your spark plugs may need to be cleaned, re-gapped, or replaced. Your Buick Certified Services advisor can check and recommend just the right spark plugs for your vehicle, including quality ACDelco spark plugs.

TRANSMISSION TIPS

Your transmission fluid and filter may require a change anywhere between 50,000 and 100,000 miles, depending on the conditions you regularly drive in and your specific vehicle’s needs.

Since transmission maintenance requirements can vary, be sure to check your Owner’s Manual to review your vehicle’s specifications.
