Understanding your Buick Limited warranty

Understanding your Buick Limited warranty

Your vehicle’s limited warranty is an important part of ownership. For Buick drivers, knowing what your limited warranty covers can help provide peace of mind and protection against unexpected repair costs.

Every new Buick comes with a standard manufacturer limited warranty package designed to protect your investment. Understanding the specifics of the Buick factory limited warranty and available extended protection plans can help you make the most of your coverage. Here’s a look at what’s included in the Buick factory limited warranty.

New Vehicle Limited Warranty

The New Vehicle Limited Warranty, also known as the Bumper-to-Bumper warranty, covers repairs to correct defects in materials or workmanship. This coverage lasts for 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first*. It is comprehensive, covering most of your vehicle from front to back, including tires and towing for limited warranty-covered repairs. The New Vehicle Limited Warranty also includes Restraint System Coverage; the seatbelts and airbag system are covered for 6 years or 72,000 miles, whichever comes first*.

Powertrain Limited Warranty

The Buick powertrain limited warranty specifically covers the essential components that make your vehicle move. This includes parts of the engine, transmission and drive systems. The Powertrain Limited Warranty provides coverage for 5 years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first*.

Corrosion Protection

Buick provides two types of corrosion coverage. The first protects the body and sheet metal components against corrosion for 3 years or 36,000 miles*. A second, longer coverage protects against rust-through — an actual hole in the sheet metal — for 6 years or 100,000 miles*

Emissions Limited Warranty

The Federal Emissions Control System Limited Warranty is also included to ensure your vehicle meets environmental standards. This coverage varies but typically covers select components like the catalytic converter and engine control module for 8 years or 80,000 miles*. Some states, like California, have specific emissions limited warranty regulations that may also apply to your vehicle.

Buick extended protection plans

Unlike the factory warranty that comes with the vehicle, a Buick protection plan can be purchased to help provide additional peace of mind once the original coverage expires. The Buick protection plan cost will vary depending on the plan you select.

Here’s an overview of available Buick Protection Plans:

  • Protection Plan*: This extends coverage for your vehicle and can help cover costs for unexpected repairs.
  • Pre-Paid Maintenance*: This plan covers scheduled oil changes and tire rotations, helping you stay on top of regular vehicle care.
  • Tire & Wheel Protection**: Can provide for the repair or replacement of tires and wheels if structurally damaged* by a covered road hazard.
  • GAP Coverage*: In the event of a total loss, GAP Coverage can help waive some or all of the difference between what you owe and what your insurance covers.
  • Advanced Protection*: This plan covers many components that commonly wear out over time.
  • XS Wear Lease Protection*: For leased vehicles, this plan helps cover common wear-and-tear charges* at the end of your lease.
  • Multi-Coverage Protection*: This combines several protection products to help preserve your vehicle’s appearance and performance.

To determine if a Buick Protection Plan is right for you, you can take a quiz to find a plan that fits your needs.

What is and isn’t covered by your limited warranty

Your Buick manufacturer limited warranty is designed to cover defects in materials or workmanship from the factory. This means that if a part fails because of how it was made, the repair is typically covered.

However, the limited warranty does not cover parts that wear out through normal use. This includes items like brake pads and tires. It also does not cover damage from accidents, misuse or failing to perform regular maintenance. As an owner, you are responsible for keeping up with your vehicle’s maintenance schedule as outlined in your Owner's Manual and keeping records of this service.

How to use your Buick limited warranty

If you believe your vehicle needs a repair that is covered under your Buick limited warranty, the first step is to take it to an authorized Buick service center. The technicians there are specially trained to work on Buick vehicles and use GM Genuine Parts for repairs.

When you arrive, a service advisor will help diagnose the issue and determine if the repair is covered by your limited warranty. They will handle the process from there, helping to ensure your vehicle gets the attention it needs.

Drive with confidence

Your Buick limited warranty is a valuable benefit of owning a Buick SUV, helping to provide protection and peace of mind. By understanding what’s covered and keeping up with regular maintenance, you can help ensure your vehicle remains in great condition.

Current Buick owners can check their limited warranty status by entering their VIN at the Buick Owner’s Center. If you're considering a new vehicle, you can explore the full Buick lineup to find the right SUV for you.
