Buick’s design philosophy is one that blends sculptural beauty with thoughtful technology and premium materials to create elevated interiors. The goal is to create an environment that feels intentionally and exceptionally curated for the customer.

There is an emphasis on capturing the essence of sculptural beauty, and the patterns, finishes and materials are selected to best highlight those sculptural forms. In a Buick interior, graceful lines work together to create a sense of harmony and refined motion. Representations of refined motion can be found across a variety of embellishments and executions; for example, the beautiful sweeping embroidered lines weaving their way through custom perforated channels found on an Avenir seat back.

The focus is on premium materials. Buick buyers will find soft trim with custom perforations and quilting, embroidered details, elegant satin finish chromes and engineered brightwork accents, all of which combine to create an elevated in-cabin feel.

In addition to continuously pursuing innovations in sustainable materials, we also work to refine the look and feel of our materials. We believe materials that are made from recycled content or have a lower carbon footprint can integrate seamlessly and beautifully into our premium interiors.

As a Color, Material and Finishes designer, my focus is providing the customer with the best feel and experience through materials and finishes. Our coatings play a part in helping ensure our materials are able to pass the rigorous testing that they go through. We work closely with our engineering counterparts to make sure haptics are not compromised, while meeting our robust guidelines for durability and cleanability.

Absolutely. We have collections of leather alternatives, all refined through meticulously crafted graining techniques, that elevate their look and feel. We are always exploring and expanding our textile portfolio, often driving inspiration from other industries, such as the twisted yarns found in furniture and home décor, and the unconventional yet timeless fluted executions found on high-fashion runways.

We work closely with all of our brand counterparts. Collaboration is a necessity for delivering the orchestration and layered, elevated experience consumers expect from a Buick. The technology must be supported by the materials it interacts with, and vice versa, to ensure the key properties and beauty of each element are highlighted, supported and working in harmony with one another.

Maintaining a discerning eye on global trends is incredibly important in what we do. The Buick design team is always analyzing the market, and consumer feedback. It is one thing to follow trends, and another to curate while embracing a trend. The latter lends itself to longevity — making thoughtful selections that are exciting, spirited and fresh while staying true to the core values that our customers expect.
