ABOUT YOUR VEHICLE’S CAMERA APP

If equipped, the available CAMERA app allows you to select multiple camera views designed to show the area in front of, behind and around your vehicle. Available camera views may vary, depending on your vehicle.

WHAT IS THE CAMERA APP?

Your vehicle’s available CAMERA app lets you select multiple camera views that can help make you more aware of the area around your vehicle. The actual camera views you can select may vary, depending on your vehicle.

HOW DO I ACCESS CAMERA APP?

Press the CAMERA icon on your infotainment display to access the CAMERA app. When you enter the app, you may see the following, depending on your vehicle:

  • Icons representing different views along the left or along the bottom of the screen.
  • A camera view displayed in the middle.
  • If your vehicle is equipped with available Surround View and you’ve enabled that feature, you may see an overhead Surround View/Overhead/Top-Down View of your vehicle on the right or left side of the screen (if enabled, this view will consistently display when you’re parked or driving at low speeds).
    • Surround View uses cameras mounted on the outside rearview mirrors. If you open a vehicle door while this view is displayed, you’ll notice a blank field on the overhead view where that camera view would normally be.

WHAT CAMERA VIEWS CAN I SELECT?

Here are the camera views you can select, depending on your vehicle’s equipment. The names of views listed here may vary, depending on your vehicle.

Front Camera Views

  • Front View/Front Standard View: Shows the area directly in front of your vehicle.
  • Front Wide View/Front Junction View: Shows a wide-angle, cross-traffic view of the area directly in front of your vehicle.
  • Front Overhead View/Top-Down View: Shows a top-down view of the area directly in front of your vehicle.
  • Front Side View/Side Forward View: Shows the areas directly beside the front of your vehicle.

Rear Camera Views

  • Rear View/Rear Standard View: Shows the area directly behind your vehicle.
    • When in Rear View/Rear Standard View, you can enable two sets of guidelines with the guideline button on your display — one set of guidelines that tracks the path of your vehicle, and Hitch Guidance guidelines that can help you line up a trailer hitch.
  • Rear Wide View/Rear Junction View: Shows a wide-angle, cross-traffic view of the area directly behind your vehicle.
  • Rear Overhead View/Top-Down View: Shows a top-down view of the area directly behind your vehicle.
  • Rear Side View/Rearward View: Shows the areas directly beside the rear of your vehicle.

Available Trailering Camera View

Depending on your vehicle’s equipment, you can select Trailer Hitch View.

  • Trailer Hitch View
    • Trailer Hitch View shows a zoomed-in view of the vehicle hitch and trailer coupler to help make trailer hitching easier.
    • When this view is active, your vehicle may automatically apply the Electric Parking Brake upon shifting into PARK to help avoid unintentional rolling.

Note: Trailering views for trucks and full-size SUVs are covered in a separate article.

Q&As

Can I use the CAMERA app while driving?

Yes. However, on older vehicles, you can only display some views while driving, such as Trailer Hitch View and Rear Standard View, and only for a short time.

Why does the CAMERA app show a vehicle that’s a different color from mine?

The vehicle displayed in the CAMERA app will always be a default color that may vary by model. However, the camera will display objects such as trailers on-screen in their true color.

Why does Surround View/Top-Down View display a black field when I open a door?

Surround View/Top-Down View uses cameras mounted on the outside rearview mirrors to show the sides of the vehicle. Surround View/Top-Down View will display a black field around that area when the door is open.
