How to use the Rear Camera Mirror

Available Rear Camera Mirror uses a camera to provide you the option of using a wide and less obstructed view behind your vehicle while driving instead of a traditional rearview mirror. The feature also allows brightness, vertical tilt and zoom adjustments.

How to use the Rear Camera Mirror

  • Instead of a regular rearview mirror, Rear Camera Mirror gives you a camera view of the area directly behind your vehicle.
    • The feature uses a rear-facing camera on the back of your vehicle. The camera’s location may vary depending on your model.
  • Before using the Rear Camera Mirror, adjust the regular mirror so it's easy to see and offers a good view of the area behind you.
  • Then, when your vehicle is on, you can switch between the Rear Camera Mirror and the regular rearview mirror by pulling or pushing the tab under the mirror.
  • If your vehicle is off, you’ll see the regular rearview mirror.
  • While the Rear Camera Mirror can make it easier to see behind your vehicle, it can't see your blind spots. You still need to be able to physically turn to look in your blind spots when making maneuvers. Don't load your vehicle up with cargo that would prevent you from looking into your blind spots just because you have Rear Camera Mirror.

How to adjust the Rear Camera Mirror

Depending on your vehicle, you can adjust the Rear Camera Mirror display with the buttons underneath the mirror.

  • Your vehicle may be equipped with a button on the rear of the mirror to adjust brightness only.
  • Some vehicles may instead be equipped with three Menu buttons to the right of the tab under the mirror. These allow you to switch between adjusting brightness, tilt and zoom, which may help you see specific areas behind you better.
    • Press the left button to switch between adjusting the brightness, tilt or zoom.
    • Press the center or right buttons to select the desired adjustment.
  • The icons you see on your mirror may vary depending on your vehicle.

How to wash the Rear Camera Mirror

You may use Camera Wash (if equipped) to keep the image clear without getting out of your vehicle.

In an SUV or crossover, when you use the rear washer, it will also wash the camera for the Rear Camera Mirror.

In sedans without a rear window washer, there may be a separate control for Camera Wash (if equipped). Look for it at the end of the wiper stalk, marked with both Video and Wash icons.

If the control is a rotating knob, turn the control away from you to wash the camera for the Rear Camera Mirror; if the control is a push-button, simply push the button at the end of the wiper stalk.

On some other vehicles without a rear window washer, there is a dial on the stalk labeled with a camera icon and the word Rear. Rotate that dial towards you to spray washer fluid on the rear camera.

Q&As

Does the image in the mirror go away when I shift out of REVERSE like it does with the Rear Vision Camera?

No. The Rear Camera Mirror image stays in the mirror until you change to the traditional rearview mirror that shows a reflection.

What would keep the Rear Camera Mirror from working as expected?

Snow, rain or dirt can obscure the rear-looking camera. Or, if it’s not properly cleaned, the system might not work optimally.

Is there a separate tank for washer fluid that I have to fill for Camera Wash?

No. Camera Wash uses the same tank that’s used to supply the washer for the front and rear windows (if equipped).
